Who we are
This website, screencandy.co.uk, is operated by Screencandy (Company No. 10567419), a UK-based freelance web development business run by Neil Sayers. Screencandy doesn’t have a public office or premises — if you need to get in touch about your data, email neil@screencandy.co.uk.
This policy explains what personal data this website collects, why, and what your rights are over it, in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
What we collect, and why
The contact form
If you use the enquiry form on this site, we collect your name, email address, and whatever else you choose to tell us about your project (company name, budget, timeline, and the details of your brief). We use this only to reply to your enquiry and, if it goes ahead, to deliver the work — never for marketing, and never sold or passed to anyone else.
Form submissions are stored in this website’s database and are also emailed to us. If your enquiry doesn’t lead to any further work, we’ll delete the submission within a reasonable time; if it does, we’ll keep what we need for the project and our own accounting/legal obligations (see “How long we keep your data” below).
Server logs
Like almost every website, our hosting provider automatically logs basic technical information for every visitor — IP address, browser type, and pages requested — for security and troubleshooting. We don’t use this to identify individual visitors.
Cookies
This site uses Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how visitors use it — pages viewed, how you arrived here, and roughly where in the world from. Google Analytics sets cookies to do this and may collect your IP address and device/browser information; this is aggregated, and we don’t use it to identify you personally. You can read Google’s own explanation of what it collects at policies.google.com/privacy.
It may also set a small number of strictly necessary cookies needed for the site to function (for example, to submit the contact form securely). These don’t identify you personally.
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings, and browser extensions/ad blockers can block Google Analytics specifically if you’d rather opt out.
Where your data is stored
This website is hosted in the UK/EU. Data submitted through the contact form is stored on our hosting provider’s servers and in our own email inbox. We don’t use any third-party marketing or CRM tools to process your enquiry.
Who we share your data with
We don’t sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for their own marketing purposes. Your data may be seen by our website hosting provider, purely as the infrastructure that stores it — they don’t use it for anything else. We’ll only share your data beyond this if we’re legally required to (for example, by a court order), or with your explicit permission.
How long we keep your data
Contact form enquiries that don’t turn into a project are kept only as long as needed to deal with your enquiry, then deleted. Where an enquiry becomes a client project, we keep the correspondence and any contract-related information for as long as the business relationship lasts, and afterwards for as long as we’re required to for accounting, tax, or other legal purposes (typically up to 6 years under UK law).
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy of it;
- ask us to correct anything that’s inaccurate or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your data, where we’re not required to keep it for a legal reason;
- ask us to restrict or object to how we use your data; and
- ask for your data in a portable format, where technically possible.
To exercise any of these, just email neil@screencandy.co.uk. We’ll respond within one month.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you also have the right to complain to the UK’s data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time — for example, if we add a new tool or service that changes what data we collect. The “last updated” date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent change.
