About ScreenCandy

The brains behind ScreenCandy is Neil Sayers. That’s me. I design and develop websites for small businesses, professionals, charities or any other organisation who needs a web presence.

I have been tinkering with web design for years as a hobby, and I have a huge amount of experience in HTML and CSS design. However, it was always difficult for me to find an application for this knowledge, as most clients want to update their own site on a regular basis, and I don’t have the time to do this.

Then I found the WordPress content management system, and a whole new world of opportunities opened up for me. Since then, I have never looked back…

My key technical skills include:

  • Hand-coding HTML and CSS to very high standard
  • WordPress content management system theme building and theme editing
  • JQuery (to add that little extra pizazz to a site)
  • Graphics manipulation with Photoshop and Fireworks
  • Excellent knowledge of web accessibility guidelines (W3C WAI)
  • Knowledge of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) techniques
  • Some experience with building SharePoint 2010 sites
  • 9 years’ experience of web project managment

More about me…

I became interested in HTML and websites around the early days of the web in the mid-nineties. After completing my A-levels, I studied electronic engineering at the University of York, obtaining a BEng degree.

Once graduated in 2001, I decided not to pursue a career in engineering, instead focussing on IT. I have had jobs as web editor for various public service organizations, and through these I have been able to gain a huge amount of website usability and accessibility experience.

On a more personal note, I enjoy snowboarding, DJing, music, movies, science fiction, video games, map-reading and acquiring useless knowledge.

A true geek!
